This month, we are pleased to share our ORGANIZATION support module.
Making things work requires excellent organization skills. Many good ideas go to waste because of poor organization. Our CPS framework can be used to focus on organizational issues. In particular, the skills of enquiring, diagnosing, summarizing, proposing and implementing, are ways in which the spotlight can be put on what needs to be done. This will enable you to clarify problems and develop solutions more effectively, via discussions and decisions. In doing so, you will gain thoughts on how to improve your own organization, and insights on how to address these by setting objectives, and converting them to outputs and results.
The history of success is built on the ability to organize. The Romans showed the way over 2000 years ago, as their legions marched across Europe and North Africa. Other armies have followed, but the large-scale organization of people in industry was rare until the 18th and 19th centuries. Since the industrial revolution, we have benefited from mass production and even more recently, from very high-quality reproduction.
Many people contributed, but Frederick Taylor wrote the classic book, The Principles of Scientific Management. No doubt he learned from Henry Ford and the mass assembly line production.
In a successful organization, this is best achieved by getting the cooperation of all those involved and promoting team spirit. Stakeholder involvement and encouragement is paramount. Overall, the CPS is a foundation for any organizational improvement, as it deals with the skills needed to assess problems and implement solutions.
So, are you and your organization focusing on the right things, or wasting time and money? Are you doing the right things and also doing things right? They are not always the same! Organization of people is often complex and is often seen as a prime activity of managers, however, everyone should be responsible and organize themselves effectively. A start point is the agreement on the key business result areas, for both the team and individuals. This can be achieved by using the skills of discussion and summarizing, as well as enquiry.
In this module, we will focus on ways and means to use both technical skills and personal thinking, as a way to develop and maintain excellent problem solving at work. We will be looking at how we can use the Communication and Problem Solving Resource as a guide to organize yourself and others, in order to achieve objectives through clear plans and systems. We will focus on how to develop objectives and convert them into action to improve performance.
